Remote Speakers Output Plug-In 1.1

« An early x-mas present from Nullsoft | Main | Remote Speakers Output Plug-In 1.2 »

The time has come to release several bug fixes and minor changes that I have been accumulating since version 1.0 was cut in late October of last year. Pick up the latest version of my AirTunes plug-in for Winamp and MediaMonkey and let me know if you run into any problems.

Work continues on version 2.0. I have a Keyspan Express Remote in my possession now and I have worked out most of the details of the protocol. There are a lot of little things to do to add support for remote control, but I should have something ready by the end of February. When I am finished, I will need a couple testers. So if you have an Express Remote and would like to help out—and get an early preview of version 2.0—drop me a line.

Hi, thanks for the new release, i installed it, but it still don't work for me.
I explain my problem:
I have a laptop and a Desktop, where I installed the plugin with winamp (its the same for all version).
-When I stream the music to the airport express through my laptop, everything is ok.
-But when doing the same through my desktop (wireless card wg311v2), the streaming just stops after about 12-17sec of playing, and I get an "error code -10054" from winamp.
I've aleady disabled everything on my desktop, even the firewall, but the problem still remains.

I don't get have problems when I use Airfoil, or iTunes to stream music with the desktop, ...
Please can You give me some advice?
many thanks and best regards

First things first, thanks for the remarkable plug-in. The only trouble I'm having with the software is unfortunately a significant one: if I pause a song and try to replay it (immediately or longer), the plug-in just sits and tries to reconnect to the AirTunes device (scrolling green bars) forever without making the connection. I've waited as long as 20 minutes. This then usually crashes MediaMonkey completely. Restarting MM alone does not resolve the issue. I must then manually power cycle the Airport Express to continue use; and go into MM options to re-select the Airport Express device. That rebooting process takes 3-5 minutes in total. Other than this glaring problem (I pause and play a lot), the software is flawless on my XP machine and I've already found it fully compatible with my Griffin AirClick USB. I just wish I didn't have to restart everything after pausing or stopping play. Interestingly enough, when the plug-in's running properly, it stays connected to the Airport Express better than iTunes ever did! I can't wait for 2.0. Hopefully that kink will be worked out as well as the onslaught of error windows when the plug-in can't find the Airport. I am trying desperately to dump iTunes. Thanks again for everything.

UPDATE: Eric wrote me back right away about my problem and reminded me to double-check that my Airport Express was upgraded to 6.3 as stated in the FAQ. I thought it was current, but when I checked the Admin AirPort Utility it showed 6.2.

As soon as the 6.3 firmware was flashed onto the Express, I could pause and play on a dime. I didn't even have to restart. <{ Apple's 6.3 update is here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportexpressfirmwareupdate63forwindows.html }>

I should also point out that Eric's plugin is fully compatible with Griffin's AirClick USB remote. Just set the AirClick software for Winamp (but before doing so, change the winamp.exe filename just slightly [e.g., "winamp_.exe"] so that AirClick asks you to locate Winamp; then just point it to MediaMonkey.exe. Don't forget to change the winamp.exe back to its original filename.)

Well done, Eric. Fine work. Send a few bucks to this guy. It couldn't be easier.

Thank you for freeing us from the curmudgeonly iTunes!

Cheers again.
